k-Core enables the design and manufacture of advanced thermal components that are smaller, lighter and more efficient than traditional heat sinks using aluminum or copper. That's important because electronic design tends toward greater miniaturization and smaller electronic enclosures — making compact yet high-performance thermal solutions a critical need. Using solid Annealed Pyrolytic Graphite (APG) material placed within an encapsulant, k-Core offers effective thermal conductivity of 1000 W/m-K, five times greater than that of solid aluminum and 2.5 times greater than that of solid copper.

The main components of k-Core are APG (with in-plane, isotropic room-temperature thermal conductivity of 1700 W/m-K), a shell made of encapsulating material, and if required, vias that transfer heat through-the-thickness and/or provide structural support.

k-Core thermal solutions can be CTE-matched to microprocessors and directly attached to the semiconductor, further extending thermal capabilities and enabling cooler-running, high-performance electronics packages in various electronics applications.
